Technion Prominent in Stem Cell Research

According to Stem Cell magazine, Israel has a total number of 8 reported human embryonic stem cell (hESC) lines, positioning it in the eighth place on the world scale.
Utilizing these lines, Israel is second in the world, after the US, for its total number of research papers describing the derivation and/or experimental use of hESC lines.
The scientific journal also ranked the 20 most quoted research papers in the field, 6 of which originated in Israel. The four highest ranking Israeli research papers at the 3rd, 6th and 8th places were conducted by researchers of the Technion`s Rappaport Family Institute for research in the Medical Sciences: (of which two members, Professor Avram Hershko and Professor Aaron Ciechanover, were the recipients of the 2004 Nobel Prize in Chemistry)Dr. Yitzhak Kehat, Prof. Lior Gepstein`s s associate, Prof. Josef Itskovitz Eldor.
